Terms of Service
These Terms govern your use of VeraMap. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. The sections below cover what you can expect from us, what we expect from you, how billing works, and how we handle the unavoidable legal stuff like disclaimers and limits on liability.
A few things worth highlighting up front: VeraMap is not an emergency service. Don't rely on it to dispatch help — call 911 (or your local equivalent) for that. Subscriptions auto-renew unless you turn them off. And disputes are resolved by individual arbitration, except where the law gives you a different right.
The full text follows. Please read it. If anything here surprises you, email legal@veramap.app and tell us — that's how we make these clearer.
These Terms include a binding arbitration clause and a class-action waiver (Section 14). Read it carefully. It affects how disputes between you and VeraMap are resolved.
The agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and Streamline Web Studios LLC ("Streamline," "VeraMap," "we," "us") governing your use of the VeraMap mobile applications, the veramap.app website, and our APIs (together, the "Service"). Our Privacy Policy is incorporated by reference and explains how we handle information.
By creating an account, installing the app, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
Who can use VeraMap
You may create a VeraMap account if you are old enough to enter a binding contract where you live — generally 18 in the United States, but in some jurisdictions younger people may also enter contracts (often 13–16) for ordinary information-society services with a parent or guardian's consent.
- If you are between 13 and the age of majority where you live, you may use VeraMap with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
- Children under 13 may use VeraMap only as a member of a loop created by their parent or legal guardian, who is responsible for the child's participation and for verifiable parental consent under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). See our Privacy Policy.
- In the EU and UK, the digital-consent age varies by country (13–16). Where a child is below that age, a parent or legal guardian must consent.
- You may not use VeraMap if you are barred from doing so under U.S. or other applicable law (e.g., sanctions lists), or if your account has previously been terminated by us for cause.
Your account
You're responsible for the accuracy of your account information, the security of your password, and what happens under your account. Please:
- Use a strong, unique password.
- Don't share your account credentials with anyone — invite them to your loop instead.
- Notify us promptly at security@veramap.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
You may delete your account at any time from the app settings or by emailing us. Deletion is described in our Privacy Policy.
The service
VeraMap lets you and the people you invite share live location with each other within private groups ("loops") using end-to-end encryption. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available"; its availability and feature set will change over time as we improve it.
We may add, change, or remove features. When changes are material, we'll provide reasonable notice. We're not obligated to maintain any specific feature, integration, or third-party connection.
Loops, invites, and members
A loop is created and managed by its owner. Members of a loop can see each other's encrypted location, display name, avatar, online state, and battery level. By joining a loop, you consent to share that information with the other members of that loop while you're a member.
- Invitations are token-based and expire automatically. Owners can revoke pending invites at any time.
- Removal. An owner can remove a member from a loop at any time. The loop's encryption key is rotated when a member is removed; the removed member can no longer decrypt updates from that loop.
- Ghost Mode. Any member can pause their location at any time. We do not require members to keep sharing.
- Leaving. You can leave a loop ("drop out") at any time. You can also delete your account entirely.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to stalk, harass, abuse, intimidate, or harm anyone.
- Add anyone to a loop without their informed consent (or, for minors, the consent of their parent or guardian).
- Use the Service to violate any law, regulation, or third-party right.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive source code, except where this restriction is prohibited by law (e.g., for software interoperability rights under EU law).
- Probe, scan, or test the security of the Service except through a coordinated disclosure to security@veramap.app.
- Bypass rate limits, anti-abuse protections, or geographic restrictions.
- Use the Service to build a competing product or to scrape, copy, or resell data.
- Submit content (display names, avatars, loop names, place labels) that is unlawful, infringing, hateful, sexually explicit, or that impersonates another person.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
Subscriptions, billing & refunds
VeraMap offers a free tier and a paid VeraMap Plus subscription. Plus prices and plan features are shown in the apps and on the pricing page at the time of purchase. We may change prices in the future; we will not change the price of an existing subscription term without giving you notice and the chance to cancel before the change takes effect.
How billing works
- Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple's App Store or Google Play, depending on your platform. They — not we — collect your payment information and process charges.
- Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period until canceled. You can turn off auto-renewal at any time in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.
- Free trials, where offered, convert to paid at the end of the trial unless you cancel beforehand.
Refunds
Refunds are governed primarily by the App Store or Google Play policies you accepted when you purchased the subscription. Where local law gives you a withdrawal right (for example, the 14-day cooling-off right for EU/UK consumers under the Consumer Rights Directive), that right applies and we'll honor it. By beginning to use VeraMap Plus during the cooling-off period, EU/UK consumers expressly request immediate performance and acknowledge that the right to withdraw lapses once the digital service has been fully provided.
Your content
You retain ownership of the content you submit to the Service — your display name, avatar, loop names, place labels, and any other text or media you provide. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, transmit, and display that content as needed to operate the Service for you and your loop members. This license is limited to what's necessary to provide the Service and ends when you delete the content (or when we delete it on your behalf).
You're responsible for the content you submit and for making sure you have the rights to share it. We may remove content that violates these Terms or applicable law.
Our intellectual property
The VeraMap name, the True North logo mark, the visual design, and the software and content we provide are owned by Streamline Web Studios LLC or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.
We welcome feedback and feature requests. If you send them, you agree we may use them without any obligation to you, though you don't lose your rights to anything you sent.
Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party platforms and providers (Apple, Google, Mapbox, our cloud infrastructure, and others — see our Privacy Policy). Their terms apply to your use of their services. We are not responsible for third-party services and don't endorse them.
Termination
You can stop using VeraMap and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if we're required to by law, or if continued operation would expose us or others to material risk. Where the issue is fixable and the law doesn't require us to act immediately, we'll try to give you notice and a chance to cure first.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including Disclaimers, Limitation of liability, Disputes & arbitration, and Governing law — survive after termination.
Disclaimers
VeraMap is a connection tool, not a safety guarantee. Do not rely on it to summon emergency services, dispatch help, or be the only way you reach someone in a crisis. If someone is in danger, call 911 (United States), 112 (EU), 999 (UK), or your local emergency number.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty arising out of course of dealing or usage of trade.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, accurate, or complete; that location data will arrive in real time; that geofence alerts will fire under all conditions; or that the Service will be compatible with every device, OS version, or third-party service.
Some jurisdictions don't allow the disclaimer of certain warranties, so some of the above disclaimers may not apply to you. In that case the warranties are limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither Streamline Web Studios LLC nor its directors, employees, agents, suppliers, or licensors will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses — arising out of or relating to the Service, even if we've been advised of the possibility of those damages.
Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) US $100.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that consumer-protection statutes in your jurisdiction prohibit from being limited or excluded.
Disputes & arbitration
We hope to resolve any concerns informally and quickly. Before filing a claim, please contact us at legal@veramap.app and give us 60 days to try to work it out.
Binding arbitration (U.S. residents)
If we can't resolve a dispute informally, you and Streamline agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will take place in your county of residence or another mutually agreeable location. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction. The Federal Arbitration Act governs the interpretation and enforcement of this section.
Class-action waiver
Disputes will be brought only in your individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding. If this class-action waiver is found to be unenforceable, then the entire Disputes & arbitration section will be void, but the remainder of the Terms will remain in effect.
Opt-out
You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing legal@veramap.app within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out" and your account email. Opting out doesn't affect any other part of these Terms.
Exceptions
Either party may bring an individual action in small-claims court instead of arbitration, and either party may seek injunctive relief in court for infringement of intellectual property rights or unauthorized access. None of this section limits the rights of EU, UK, or other consumers where mandatory local law requires court access.
Governing law and forum
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to the arbitration agreement above, the exclusive forum for any dispute that may proceed in court is the state or federal courts located in Travis County, Texas, and you and Streamline consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. If you are a consumer in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer-protection laws, this section does not deprive you of any protection or right to sue in your country of residence that those laws require.
Regional terms
European Union, United Kingdom, and Switzerland
- These Terms do not affect statutory rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived, including the right to a legal guarantee of conformity for digital content and digital services and any cooling-off / right of withdrawal that applies to your purchase.
- The European Commission provides an Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are not obliged to participate in alternative dispute resolution before a consumer dispute resolution body, and currently we do not.
California
Under California Civil Code §1789.3, California users are entitled to the following notice: the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs may be contacted in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834.
Apple App Store
If you obtained the iOS app through the App Store, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Streamline only — not Apple — and that Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms with respect to the iOS app and may enforce them against you. The full set of additional Apple-specific terms (license scope, warranty, claims, product claims, IP claims) is incorporated here by reference and applies to your use of the iOS app.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date reflects the most recent revision. For material changes — including changes that affect your rights, billing, or how disputes are resolved — we'll provide reasonable advance notice (typically by email or in-app banner). Continuing to use the Service after the new Terms take effect means you accept them. If you don't agree, please stop using the Service and delete your account before they take effect.
